Alexander the Great :
- Philip's son Alexander was a talented person. He was taught by a remarkable Greek tutor, Aristotle. Immediately after his father's death Alexander ascended the throne. He lost no time to march against the Greeks to remind them that they were now a part of his empire. Soon after, Alexander marched against the Persian Empire. The Persian army was badly organised compared to the well-disciplined Alexander's. Alexander inflicted a crushing defeat on the Persian army under the command of Darius III in the battle of Issue (333 BC). During the next five years Alexander advanced into the distant eastern provinces and beyond. He crossed the Oxus and Jaxartes rivers. Then he turned southward across the Indus river and into India.
